The Ten Virgins

by Frank Pesile

My father's gone, he's gone away, said he'd return to me some day.
Where he's gone I couldn't say, he's coming back real soon I pray.
He left it seems so long ago to give us time to learn and grow.
Oh, how I miss him everyday the nights are long, the days are gray.

I miss his touch his loving smile, his poignant words his gracious style.
His arms so strong to lift me up, and comfort me when things got tough.
I tried to make it on my own, was free to choose but not yet grown.
To learn myself, I wanted to still he was there to help me through.

Chorus
Father and loving son there's still work to be done,
Much battles to be won, till man can see.
See with loves guiding light once blind but, now with sight,
to fight on through the night, wisdom from thee.

My mom was there to urge us on the children thought where has father gone?
Those tender words I learned to know, from the good book all knowledge flowed.
She told us not to lose our sight, to learn from wrong and make it right.
So, be on guard and stay prepared, he'll soon come home so don't be scared.

He's coming back but, who knows when?
When that time comes we will know it then.

We'll know our place, we'll know our fate, just hope the time it's not too late.
Let's clean our house with love not hate. Let's do it now -- don't hesitate.
We'll each take part, we each will share, so come equipped with haste, with care.

Chorus
Strong faith to learn the truth that's sometimes lost in youth.
And bearing pleasing fruit so we can say
say that we heard your voice and now we all rejoice,
once last but, now we're first-father today.

He'll be here soon -- I know he'll be his outstretched arms will be holding me.
And wishing and waiting Oh, so long. I'll know the place where I belong.
And looking up to see his flight I realize God, it's not tonight.
So, driving home-sad-and alone my prayerful plea, please remember me.

So, children listen for his call, stay firm in faith and please don't fall.
He's called us to his precious home,
Let's go together, not alone.
For in this world there's greed and lust much loss and pain -- but in him we trust.
I'll carry you when all seems through, so, don't you fear I'm always near.

Chorus
To some life's door is locked they choose to wait and mock.
Their ship's tied to the dock, listing and through.
Then suddenly it came through darts of night my name.
Now life's not been the same because of you.

And after waiting for so long I hear him blowing on the horn.
But, half my children he'll receive the other half they did not believe.
So, merrily we run outside to see his face, he never lied.
He welcomes us, but sad to find not all are here, some are left behind.

Chorus
If what you reap you sow your father he will know,
if your light's been aglow because he'll be there.
Be there to meet his bride and take her to his side, he will not be denied.
With love, not fear, the time is near, to leave from here, at last he's here.
