Come for Everything is Ready Now
(The Parable of the Great Supper; Luke 14:)

by Frank Pesile

There was a special Dinner, given by a man.
Many were invited, called throughout the land.
And at the final hour, he sent his slave to say,
The feast has been prepared, the dinner was that day.

But one said he had purchase a piece of land so grand,
He had to go and tend it, to water trees and sand.
Another bought some oxen, the number was 5 yolk,
He said he had to try them, attending was remote.
And on that certain day, a man married a wife,
He granted to be pardoned, the time was not right.

Chorus
Come for everything is ready now.
Please consider me excused, for dinner none's been found.

The slave came to his master, and gave him the report,
Then anger filled the master, and this was his retort.
Go out through this great city, and comb the streets and lanes,
So we can fill the vacant seats, with the poor, crippled, blind and lame.

And the slave said to his master, what you commanded has been done.
Yet people are carousing, in rebellion, lust, and fun.
It still looks like an empty room, the salve said in such gloom,
The master said to him again, it's sad, the banquet's soon.
Go out into the hedges and the highways and fill my place,
So that my house may soon be filled, don't hesitate, make haste.

Chorus
Come for everything is ready now.
Please consider me excused, for dinner none's been found.
For I tell you I am not delighted.
None shall taste my dinner feast, of those who were invited.
Come for everything is ready now.
Please consider me excused, for dinner none's been found.
