The Service of Proskomide
Author: Father Tom Pistolis (Dean of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Greenville, SC)
Date:10/08/2007
Subject:
In parish churches in the Orthodox Christian faith, the service of Proskomide begins before most of the people arrive in the Church. The faithful priest will say these humble prayers with all his heart and soul in a spirit of repentance and wanderful awe in the presence of the Lord. It takes place in a small altar to the left of the main altar during the service before the Divine Liturgy called "Orthros." Parishioners bring the bread and wine that are then prepared for the consecration by the priest in this service.
